Julia Gray is president and owner of Julia Gray, Ltd., a leading purveyor of fine painted furniture, antiques and reproductions to the interior design trade. Originally from Kentucky, Ms. Gray came to New York as an interior designer, where she landed her first job as a designer for the major furniture retailer W&J Sloane. While there, she continued her education at Parsons and New York School of Interior Design. Her stint at W&J Sloane awakened her passion for the business of furniture and merchandising which led her to various retail design and merchandising positions including working as a buyer for Bloomingdale's, director of interior design at Macy's and opening a few shops of her own.
After extensive European shopping trips, Ms. Gray discovered a need for fine quality painted furniture pieces and there were not enough antiques to meet her clients' demands. Thus, Julia Gray, Ltd. was created; her namesake company that manufactures fine quality 18th and 19th century style painted furniture reproductions as well as a vast array of 20th century mirrored furniture.
Julia Gray, Ltd., renowned for their vast selection and fine quality furniture has experienced tremendous growth. The company now owns its own manufacturing plant in New York where all their reproduction pieces are crafted, finished, and upholstered to designers' specifications. Julia Gray, Ltd. has showrooms in every major design center around the country. The New York showroom, located in the D&D Building offers these fine reproduction pieces as well as original 18th and 19th century painted antique furniture and decorative accessories.
