HIGH POINT - By uniting creative design and manufacturing expertise with proven trends towards
unique, casual bedroom furniture, premiere furniture crafter E.J., Victor introduces ,
a one-of-a-kind collection that captures the geometric beauty of woven wood with the durability of Maple solids.
The
eight-piece collection crafted in Quartered Ash veneers and Maple solids offers stunning visual and textural
elements through a unique, labor-intensive manufacturing process that creates a woven wood look while maximizing
structural integrity.
is offered in a casual
light finish, Khaki, and a warm wood tone finish, Saddle. Silver and brass pulls, hinges and hardware, inspired
by artistic luxury jewelry, give the furniture an element of relaxed sophistication by fusing art with signature
designs.
"We have had success with casual product in the past such as our Boracay collection
and our Budji collection," said John V. Jokinen, president and CEO. "Both of those products have
been basically imported bedroom furniture using woven leather, polished bamboo, crushed bamboo, things that
we don't do in our own factories. We never had a casual bedroom collection that was produced domestically
in our own plants.
"We feel that the time is good for us to venture into that arena for several reasons:
We think that the design of the product is unique; it's going to hit the more casual needs of consumers today,
and bedroom is projected to be one of the hot spots for the industry for the rest of this year, 2003, and
into 2004."
The
woven effect is ingeniously achieved using hundreds of small, rectangular, solid Maple blocks, carved into
pillow-top shapes and hand positioned and secured with glue and nails onto a Maple panel. The entire structure
then is enclosed in a Quartered Ash veneer frame. This systematic geometry creates a stunning basket weave-like
visual effect that is highly durable and accommodating to beautiful wood finishes.
The eight pieces include an Armoire, a single chest, a mirror, two nightstands and a panel
bed available in queen, king and California King. All beds include an over-sized panel headboard, a low profile
footboard and rails crafted in Quarter Ash veneers. The King headboard stands 68-inches tall, and the footboard
measures 29 ½ inches in height.
One nightstand is designed with a bow front and a glass top. The customized, molded glass
features the three-dimensional weave geometry.
Early marketing of yielded strong support. "We feel that based on the response to it
that we'll be coming out with a dining room on the heels of the successful introduction of the bedroom,"
Jokinen said.
