Regency Chinoiserie inspires Newport Additions
HIGH POINT, NC: April 2005 A private collection of fine Regency Chinoiserie furniture inspired the Newport April 2005 Market additions.
The introductions include a tall English bookcase with black lacquer and gold leafed scenes and carvings. A five foot diameter dining table with a gilded dolphin base and a radial designed faux tortoise top also headlines the new items. Others include a fine set of quartetto tables with aged Umber Chinoiserie scenes. A tri-level corner table provides useful function in otherwise wasted space. A folding game table, a brass gallery vanity table, and a mahogany inlaid sofa table complete the wood collection.
Seating includes interesting right or left crested sofas and tub chair, both featuring hand-tufted detail.
The Newport Mansions Collection draws upon Newport’s rich artistic legacy from the Gilded Age of the late 19th century, a period when fine furnishings were the symbol of gracious living. Furnishings from the summer homes of the nation’s most powerful families have been reproduced and adapted for today’s lifestyle.
